On the occasion of the ‘Sixth Passport Seva Divas’ on June 26, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has announced a revamped ‘mPassportSeva’ app. The app will now will now allow citizens to apply for a fresh passports from anywhere in the country. This means if you are hometown is in Lucknow and you stay in Chennai, you can apply for a fresh passport or re-issue in lieu of an existing passport from Chennai itself.

This ‘mPassportSeva’ mobile app was first released on July 11, 2013. The app is available for free download on both Android and iOS and has garnered over 1 million downloads on Android. Note that the app is released by ‘Consular, Passport and Visa (CPV) Division’ and not by any other government agency.
